The Knowledge Hour
What to Expect When You’re Expecting to Hire
So you’ve started your own business, seen some success, and now it’s time to start growing! Easy, right? Not necessarily.
Hiring an employee seems like it should be straightforward, but there are a few essential things that most first-time employers don’t know and aren’t prepared for. From Employer taxes, to State withholding accounts, Unemployment and Worker’s Comp insurance to quarterly tax filings, there is a lot that a first-time employer needs to know before they make that first hire. Flying blind could risk fines, tax penalties and interest, or even a costly audit or lawsuit.
In this session, we will go over all that is needed and expected of employers in the state of New Jersey. You will come out of this session with the following:
- An accurate understanding of the REAL costs of hiring an employee
- Deep dive on the differences between Employees and Independent Contractors
- Hiring Remote employees – what to know about multi-state payroll
- A grasp of the fundamentals of Human Resources, and what should be in place BEFORE you hire
- Some information on employee benefits – Retirement plans, Health insurance, and more
- Resources for employers at the Federal, State and Local level
So if you’re a business owner and thinking about scaling your business by hiring an employee or growing your team, this is a can’t miss discussion. Come with any questions you may have!
These monthly interactive NJSWC Knowledge Hour virtual sessions provide insight from the presenters and by interactions with each other. Event Format: 5 minute intro, 30 minute presentation, and remaining time for Q&A.
